The TIFIA loan will finance the first phase of the project, including:

• Design and construction of a new six-lane, cable-stayed bridge over the Mobile River;
• Reconstruction of approximately one mile of the existing Bayway and restriping of the entire 7.5-mile Bayway from two to three lanes in each direction;
• Key interchange, intersection, and traffic flow improvements in Mobile and Baldwin counties to support the new bridge and expanded Bayway capacity; and
• Implementation of a new roadside toll collection system, commercial back office, and customer services center.

Once completed, the project is expected to cut travel times by up to 30 minutes, ease capacity constraints along the Mobile River and Bayway, improve safety and support economic growth by improving access to key destinations, including the Port of Mobile. No tolls will be collected until the new bridge opens and users benefit from improvements, currently projected for approximately 2031.
