Submitting FOIA Requests

In recognition of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and following the Department’s guidance to take all necessary precautions to protect the health and safety of the Department’s workforce, the FOIA team is working remotely and may not be able to immediately process requests mailed or faxed to the office.  Processing of any requests received by mail or fax may be delayed until employees are able to return safely to the office.  The weblinks below will connect you to the FOIA Office for each of the Department’s Operating Administrations.  If you wish to resubmit your request, please send it to the e-mail address for the FOIA Office associated with your request.

About FOIA

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a Federal law that gives you the right to access any U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) record.  These records will be provided to you unless DOT reasonably foresees that the release of the information in the records would harm an interest protected by one or more of the nine FOIA exemptions (such as classified national security, business proprietary, personal privacy, investigative documents, etc.) or release is prohibited by law. Our mission is to provide you with copies of the documents you are entitled to receive under the law, and we look forward to working with you to achieve that goal.
