What We Do

The Office of Operations provides legal advice on a broad range of issues affecting the Department's programs.  We are the principal legal advisors to the General Counsel and Departmental Offices in the following areas of law: 

• The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 
• Information and Privacy Law
• Environmental Law
• Native American Sovereignty and Jurisdiction
• The Department's Security and Emergency Response Authorities
• Cybersecurity

In addition to the practice areas listed above, we handle records management issues, environmental implications of emerging technologies, and Office of Inspector General and Government Accountability Office audits.
