TRANSIT BENEFIT PROGRAM BULLETIN

TRANServe ELECTRONIC FARE MEDIA – DEBIT CARD

Bulletin Number:  EFM-2011-03

Date:  May 25, 2011

SUBJECT:  New York MTA Payment Process Using the TRANServe Debit Card

PURPOSE:  Provide information on available options for the purchase of fare media using the TRANServe Debit Card and personal funds (Split Payment).

BACKGROUND:  TRANServe debit card transition from paper to electronic fare media distribution is scheduled for June for use in July.

ACTION ITEMS:  Split Payment

  1. Transit Systems differ for debit card transactions refer to your specific transit system for guidance when using your TRANServe debit card.
  2. Long Island Railroad (LIRR) - Use your TRANServe debit card, cash, and check at the ticket window or Mail & Ride (phone) at 718-217-5477 when riding LIRR.  For more information please use the following link: (http://www.mta.info/supplemental/lirr/TransitBenefitProgram.htm)
  3. Metro-North Railroad (MNR) - Use your TRANServe debit card, cash, and check at the ticket window or Mail & Ride (phone) at 212-532-4900 when riding MNR.  Also, MNR Mail & Ride will accept two credit card payments for the full value of transit fare media.  For additional information please use the following link: (http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/voucher.htm)

Note: Ticket Machines at MNR and LIRR stations only accept one form of payment for each transaction (cash, TRANServe debit card, or other).  If the commuting cost exceeds your federally certified transit benefit amount, participants should select a different payment process to purchase your fare media.  This means that options 1, 2, and 3, above would be the recommended solutions for obtaining fare media at the full value of your commuting cost.
