Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced an investment of $1.013 billion into 297 projects in all 50 states and Puerto Rico that will make roads safer for American families. This investment targets critical safety improvements nationwide, including upgrading hazardous intersections, eliminating dangerous railroad crossings, expanding truck parking, and strengthening emergency response services. View the FY 2026 project selections.

Program Overview

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) competitive grant program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over 5 years, 2022-2026. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries.

The SS4A program supports the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Roadway Safety Strategy.

Combining the FY22, FY23, FY24, FY25, and FY26 awards to date, SS4A has provided $4.9 billion in Federal funding to over 2,200 communities in all 50 States and Puerto Rico. Through this important funding source, USDOT is empowering Tribal, local, and regional efforts to save lives and reduce serious injuries on our roadways through infrastructure improvements, upgraded emergency response services, and coordinated planning to support roadway safety.
