The US DOT inaugural Future of Transportation Summit took place on August 13-15, 2024  at the DOT headquarters in Washington, D.C.  During this three-day event, presentations were conducted based on mobility, environment, infrastructure, safety and cybersecurity themes by participants of the University Transportation Centers.  Cutting-edge demos and  thought-provoking posters were also exhibited.

This event was hosted by the US Department of Transportation and led by the Safety21 University Transportation Center at Carnegie Mellon University.  The specific objectives of the FoT Summit were to:

  • Enhance coordinated research amongst the US DOT University Transportation Centers and the broader transportation community,
  • Highlight the most impactful projects completed, around-the-corner, and over-the-horizon, and
  • Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities, both in intermodal and multi-modal research.
