Supplemental Public Sector Training Grant
General Grant Program Information
The Supplemental Public Sector Training (SPST) Grant furthers the purposes of the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant program by funding national nonprofit fire service organizations, which then train instructors to provide training to public-sector hazmat responders with statutory responsibility to respond to hazardous materials incidents or those tasked with responding to accidents and incidents involving hazardous material. This is a “train-the-trainer” program. Eligible applicants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofit fire service organizations. Eligible uses are limited to training activities. Applications must include narrative descriptions of proposed program activities, curriculum, and outputs/deliverables for which PHMSA will conduct administrative, technical, and programmatic reviews.

Funding Information
The SPST program made approximately $1 million in competitive grants available for FY 2022. Individual awards range between $500,000 and $1 million. There is no requirement for matching; the federal cost-share is 100 percent.
