Eligibility Information

Eligible applicants under this program are those eligible for Section 5337 funds. This eligibility is composed of States and local governmental authorities located in Urbanized Areas (UZA) with fixed guideway or high intensity motorbus systems in revenue for at least seven (7) years.

Funding Information

Per statute, this program may only make three awards per fiscal year.  

The Rail Vehicle Replacement Program was authorized to provide $1.5 billion over the 5 years of the BIL, or $300 million annually FY 2022-2026.  

The federal cost-share for grant assistance provided under the Rail Vehicle Replacement Program, as a share of eligible project costs, is a maximum of 50 percent. The federal cost-share for projects is a maximum of 80 percent; applicants must supply the remaining 20 percent from non-federal sources.
