Pipeline Emergency Response Grant
General Grant Program Information
The Pipeline Emergency Response Grants (PERG) is a competitive grant program designed to encourage a comprehensive approach to emergency planning and training by incorporating the unique challenges of responding to pipeline emergency situations. The grants are awarded on a discretionary basis and are based on an identified need to train responders affected by pipeline incidents. The goal of this program is to promote responder training and community involvement in pipeline emergency response preparedness and response efforts, particularly in high consequence areas.

Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants include state, county, and local governments.
Eligible Uses
Eligible uses include:
- Pipeline emergency response planning, training, and exercises to individuals with statutory responsibility to respond to pipeline incidents
- Pipeline Emergency Responder Initiative (PERI) development and training
- Pipeline leak recognition and release evacuation training
- Development and maintenance of pipeline training curriculum
- Training props, equipment, and supplies
Funding Information
Congress provided up to $2.5 million for the PERG through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (Pub. L. 116-260).
PERG made approximately $2.5 million in competitive grants for FY 2023. Individual awards vary but cannot exceed $500,000. Recipients may request up to 50 percent of the total amount of the award upon execution of the grant agreement. The remaining amount may be requested upon receipt and approval of the mid-term progress report, or any other requirements of awards over $100,000.
There is no requirement for matching; the federal cost-share is 100 percent.
