Community Safety Grant (CSG)
General Grant Program Information
Reauthorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), the Community Safety Grant (CSG) program provides funding to nonprofit organizations to conduct national outreach and trainings assisting communities in the preparation for and response to accidents and incidents involving the transportation of hazardous materials (including flammable liquids by rail) and to “train the trainers” responsible for enforcement within state and local governments.
For funding to provide this training to emergency responders, please see the Assistance for Local Emergency Response Training (ALERT) program.
Eligible applicants are limited to nonprofit organizations capable of providing direct or web-based training to state and local personnel responsible for enforcing the safe transportation of hazardous materials, or that have the ability to conduct national outreach and training programs to assist communities in preparing for and responding to accidents and incidents involving the transportation of hazardous materials.
The CSG program had $1 million available in grants for FY 2022. Individual award amounts ranged from $100,000 to $250,000. There is no funding match requirement for the CSG program.
