Description | Security credentials are a required enabler for any cooperative driving automation (CDA) applications for vehicle to everything (V2X) communication using C-V2X radios to ensure that users can trust in the validity of information received from other system users. SCMS provides the message security solution for V2X communication. This project seeks to add Secure Credential Management System (SCMS) certificates to the CARMA suite of tools that are used to demonstrate CDA proof of concepts, accelerate and enable CDA research to enhance security, better understand the constraints to which deployed systems would be subject. Once implemented, this project would enable conduct of interoperability testing, hopefully with at least one external organization to ensure interoperability with an independent SCMS implementation. A potential partnership opportunity is with the Colorado DOT, where certificates have not been fully interoperable. Future tasking could prototype alternative credentialing technologies (e.g., blockchain) to better understand how they might function, their relative strengths and weaknesses, and/or how they might interact with the SCMS design. The total cost for this project is estimated to be $600,000. |
