Description

In 2022 and 2023, as part of the effort to develop an FHWA wide Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation (AMS) Research Plan and Roadmap, FHWA conducted significant stakeholder engagement with AMS tools users (i.e., State DOTs, contractors), AMS tools developers, AMS researchers, USDOT modes (e.g., NHTSA, FTA, JPO), and other Federal agencies (i.e., DOE, EPA). Multiple stakeholders suggested that FHWA should have a role in creating, facilitating, and supporting a CAV/EV AMS Community of Practice. Thus, the creation of a CAV/EV AMS Community of Practice was one of the first steps identified in the FHWA wide CAV EV AMS Research Plan.
The purpose of this project is to recruit, organize, and pilot a CAV/EV AMS Community of Practice. This pilot community will play a role in helping to coordinate across FHWA disciplines (safety, planning, operations, freight, infrastructure, and policy), State DOTs, modeling software developers, vehicle technology industry, and all other stakeholders to identify CAV/EV AMS needs and prioritize program actions on a regular basis (e.g., semiannual or annual meetings).
