Description

Chaffee County Road 300 provides access to the Arkansas River, the Browns Canyon National Monument, and to the Ruby Mountain Campground.  This 0.25-mile section of CR 300 is gravel surfaced. The typical width is 19-22 feet, with the exception of a short narrow 12-foot section (“the Narrows”) located at the crest of a vertical curve in the middle of a horizontal curve.  This section is bordered by a rock cut on the north and the Arkansas River on the south. The scope of this project is to widen the 0.25 miles of the existing roadway to a consistent 24-foot wide gravel surface, provide geometry and site distance that matches the posted speed at “the Narrows” area, improve drainage and improve safety by adding guardrail where necessary.
