On Thursday, April 4th, the Small Business Transportation Resource Center for the Southwest Region (SW SBTRC) held the final workshop for the Bonding Education Program in Las Vegas.  20 participants in the program received their certificate for completing the instructional workshop portion of the program.  The SW SBTRC will continue working with these small and disadvantaged businesses in the year ahead on the bond readiness component to assist them in reaching their individual bonding goals so that they will be prepared to bid and work on US DOT funded projects.  Two of the firms who participated in this BEP series have already begun the process of receiving their first bond; one for $250K and one for $1 million.

During the final workshop presentations were made on Project Management and Estimating and Bidding.  Additionally, representatives from both Nevada DOT and the McCarran International Airport shared the organizations contracting opportunities for DBE’s and other small businesses.  The goal is to have participating businesses get over the hurdle of bonding so they are able to bid and participate on federally-funded transportation infrastructure projects.
