Brian Brotsos is Acting Chief Data and AI Officer (CDAIO) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Brian oversees DOT’s data strategy and AI integration, ensuring the Department not only effectively uses AI products, but also has the data frameworks and capabilities to support such tools. With more than 25 years’ federal experience, he has led large-scale data initiatives and digital transformation programs across multiple agencies (Department of the Treasury, United States Department of Agriculture, DOT), guiding enterprise-wide adoption of innovative technologies from experimentation to operational use. Currently, his work focuses on:

  • Creating a comprehensive, resilient data foundation that provides quality, well-regulated, accessible data to all DOT, and 
  • Applying and integrating data and AI solutions into enterprise analytics and decision making, thereby streamlining and enhancing DOT’s ability to deliver on its core Mission.

Brian holds a degree in Computer Science from DePaul University and has completed advanced coursework in AI. His technical expertise is supplemented by certifications from the American University Key Executive Leadership and Chief Executive Officer (CXO) Fellowship programs. He has been awarded the U.S. DOT Secretary’s Award twice; in 2020, for achievements in data analytics, and in 2024 for Creativity and Innovation in IT Strategy and Modernization of Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Grants Management System.
