DOT Leadership Training

As part of the USDOT Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) the Center for Transportation Leadership (CTL) is designed to positively impact USDOT professionals, so that as leaders they can influence their peers, teams, and organizations. We are committed to facilitating interactive and engaging learning experiences that support USDOT employees in transforming their organizations into dynamic places to work, while also enabling them to build safe, sustainable, accessible, and efficient transportation systems.

TSI has a history of effective and efficient leadership within USDOT in the development and delivery of functional skills training in the areas of safety and security. We have 45 years of experience and success in developing, delivering, and administering large USDOT training programs. We have accomplished this with an intermodal perspective that synthesizes the best practices for each mode of transportation.

Our approach integrates leadership training with the strategic goals of the USDOT and the challenges of the transportation industry. We utilize a blended learning approach that incorporates instructor-led training, virtual-live training, self-paced e-learning, and self-directed learning. We have established partnerships with USDOT modal administrations and with the transportation industry. We have a partnership with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Center for Leadership Development (CLD), Eastern Management Development Center (EMDC). These partnerships will ensure the availability of experienced resident and associate staff to meet design and delivery needs. TSI with EMDC can deliver the leadership training that USDOT requires.

TSI with its OPM partnership can deliver, at the USDOT HQ building, a multi-session cohort-based leadership development program over a period of four, seven, or twelve months. This program includes both an individual project and a team project. It is tuition-based with a maximum enrollment of 32 individuals. Successful completion of the program grants recipients a Certificate of Transportation Leadership.

TSI and OPM can deliver each of these learning experiences as a resident course at a USDOT facility. These courses are tuition-based but can be delivered on-demand to USDOT administrations on a per course-fee basis. These courses will be managed through the TSI Learning Management System.
