The unemployment rate in the U.S. transportation sector was 4.9% (not seasonally adjusted) in February 2026. Seasonally adjusted, employment in the transportation and warehousing sector fell to 6,531,700 in February 2026. Total transportation jobs are down 0.2% from the previous month and down 2.4% from February 2025. February 2026 jobs by mode (seasonally adjusted): Air transportation: 575,100 Truck transportation: 1,462,500 Transit and ground passenger transportation: 493,900 Rail transportation: 151,900
