Summary
The Federal Aviation Administration amends the airworthiness standards for transport category airplanes to establish a new requirement for fire protection of powerplant installations. This amendment requires that components within a designated fire zone must be fireproof if, when exposed to or damaged by fire, they could pose a hazard to the airplane. Issuing this amendment eliminates regulatory differences between the airworthiness standards of the U.S. and the Joint Aviation Requirements of Europe, without affecting current industry design practices.
