The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was established by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 and is the Department of Transportation (DOT) agency focused on our Nation’s passenger and freight rail transportation safety and infrastructure requirements. As such, FRA promotes safe, environmentally sound railroad transportation to meet the Nation’s current and future needs.
