Prasad Gupte is a Senior Strategist at the USDOT Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence (HASS COE). Previously, while on detail to the Office of the Undersecretary for Science and Innovation in the Department of Energy (DOE) Vehicle Technologies Office, Prasad helped the Department bridge the gap between basic and applied programs. He led multiple crosscutting initiatives to support the development of integrated R&D strategies across the Department. As a technology manager in the Energy Efficient Mobility Systems program at DOE, Prasad managed approximately $20M in annual funds for early-stage R&D for automation and connectivity at the vehicle, traveler, and system levels to create knowledge, insights, tools, and technology solutions to increase mobility energy productivity for individuals and businesses. During his tenure at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the Department of Commerce, he served as project manager for high-risk, high-reward R&D projects in the now defunct Advanced Technology Program (which was modeled to be a “civilian DARPA”). Prior to federal service, Prasad was a manufacturing engineer at Merck, a management consultant at Accenture, and a research engineer at Dow Chemical. Prasad received an M.S. in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
