The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 requires US DOT to conduct a demonstration of backup GPS capability and complementary PNT (positioning, navigation and timing) services. DOT is working in conjunction with the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and civilian partners to develop and test these critical backups, ensuring a more robust and resilient national PNT architecture.
