USDOT Safety with Uber’s Kepler.gl

USDOT Safety with Uber’s Kepler.gl combines Kepler.gl, Uber’s historical speed data, and publicly available crash data to visualize traffic safety insights. The tool will use open source tools to visualize historical Uber speed data with the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) in metropolitan areas, gaining actionable insights into conditions that could contribute to fatal collisions. With a user-centered design, this tool will combine data sources and provide a new way for policy-makers to visualize unsafe areas.

Through an intuitive web-based platform, USDOT Safety with Uber’s Kepler.gl users can:
• display an overlay of hourly and street-segment-level data (e.g., speeding collisions data with speeding behavior derived from Uber Movement); and
• make data-informed safety decisions by visualizing a combination of Uber Movement speeds data and FARS data, and by uploading their own local data.

Challenge Tracks: USDOT Safety with Uber’s Kepler.gl is a Discover Insights Tool for policy makers and influencers focused on conflict points impacts.
