National Multimodal Freight Network (NMFN)

cargo ship

The Freight Office is establishing the National Multimodal Freight Network to assist States in strategically directing resources toward improved system performance for the efficient movement of freight on the Network, to inform freight transportation planning, and to assist in the prioritization of Federal investment.

DOT is seeking information on designating the National Multimodal Freight Network.

USDOT is seeking information from the public to help us designate the National Multimodal Freight Network. DOT is interested in hearing from transportation system users, transportation providers, metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, ports, airports, railroads, freight forwarders, brokers, other supply chain logisticians, scholars, and States on the best approach to identify critical freight facilities and corridors that will make up the NMFN. The Request for Information (RFI) requests input on the goals for the NMFN, the factors for designating the NMFN, and measurable thresholds, criteria, and data sources for DOT to consider.
