DRIVING THE NEWS: Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs Attend Largest Trucking Show in North America
USDOT highlighted the Trump Administration’s pro-trucker initiatives, including MOTUS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Administrator Derek Barrs joined the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky, today. Both met with truckers, interacted with new industry innovations, and highlighted the Department’s latest actions to improve the lives of American truckers.
Secretary Duffy also announced that MOTUS, a unified online registration system that will house all FMCSA forms in one place, is set to launch in six weeks time.
Under Secretary Duffy, USDOT has:
- Expanded Truck Parking, with more than $275 million in investments for parking projects
- Removed One-Size-Fits-All-Mandates, including on speed limiters for heavy-duty trucks
- Modernized Driver Resources, including modernizing the Consumer Complaint database
- Slashed red tape and cracked down on bad actors, including regulations that made it harder for truckers to do their work
The Secretary and Administrator also met with Dalilah Coleman, a young girl whose life was changed forever when an illegal immigrant trucker crashed into the back of her family’s car. To protect Americans and stop illegal immigrants from getting behind the wheel of 80,000-pound big rigs, President Donald J. Trump endorsed Dalilah’s Law.
“I’m grateful to our strong House Republican leadership for putting Americans first. Representative Rouzer’s bill, Dalilah’s Law, codifies a simple premise: no English, no license. Unqualified and unvetted foreigners have no business getting behind the wheel of an 80,000-pound vehicle and killing innocent American families. President Trump was clear: pass Dalilah’s Law and safeguard American roads,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy on Congress’s effort to move Dalilah’s Law forward.
Since 1972, MATS has been a hub for the trucking industry’s historic brands and exciting startups to do business, form partnerships, and showcase new technologies. This year, MATS attracted 800 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees from across the globe.
