DOT Announces Competitive Grant Solicitation for Two New University Transportation Research Centers

Friday, September 21, 2018

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) today published a Notice of Funding Opportunity for $15 million to fund two new University Transportation Centers (UTCs).

“Our Universities are at the forefront of solution-oriented research addressing America’s changing demographics and increased freight volumes,” said Keith Nelson, Senior Advisor for Research and Technology.  “These funds will support UTC programs that provide students with real opportunities to take part in cutting-edge transportation research.”

As part of its UTC program, the Department is seeking applications from institutions of higher education to compete for recognition as new National UTCs.  One center will focus on “Congestion Relief,” while the other will focus on “Improving the Durability and Extending the Life of Transportation Infrastructure.”

The funding for these two new UTCs was appropriated in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018.  Applications will compete for awards of $7.5 million for each center.

“UTCNATIONALCOMP2018” is available now here.  For more information on the UTC program, contact Nancy Wilochka at (202) 366-5128.
