WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is taking a proactive safety approach to protect vehicles from malicious cyber-attacks and unauthorized access by releasing proposed guidance for improving motor vehicle cybersecurity.

October 2015 Driving Sets New Record, New Federal Data Show

WASHINGTON – New data released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) show that U.S. driving reached 273.5 billion miles in October 2015, the highest of any October on record, and more than 2.63 trillion miles so far this year. The new data, published in FHWA’s latest “Traffic Volume Trends” report – a monthly estimate of U.S. road travel – illustrate the growing demands facing the nation’s road system.

FMCSA Extends Deadline for “Be Ready. Be Buckled.” Student Art Contest to March 15.  The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today announced that it is extending the deadline for submissions for the 2014 “Be Ready. Be Buckled.” student art contest until March 15, 2014.  Organized by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Belt Partnership, the contest is open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade with relatives or sponsors in the commercial truck and bus industries.
