U.S. Secretary of Transportation Asks Inspector General to Ensure Audit of Boeing 737-MAX 8 Certification is Part of Review

The U.S. Department of Transportation today confirmed Secretary Elaine L. Chao has asked that, as part of an ongoing review of factors related to aviation certification, the Inspector General conduct a formal audit of the certification process for the Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft.  The referral memo reads:

At South by Southwest, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Announces Launch of Council to Support Emerging Transportation Technology


AUSTIN, TX – U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao today announced the creation of the Non-Traditional and Emerging Transportation Technology (NETT) Council, an internal deliberative body at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) tasked with identifying and resolving jurisdictional and regulatory gaps that may impede the deployment of new technology, such as tunneling, hyperloop, autonomous vehicles, and other innovations. Secretary Chao made the announcement during her remarks at the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao Joined by Jacksonville Officials to Formally Announce $25 Million BUILD Grant for Revitalization Projects

JACKSONVILLE – U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao today made the formal announcement of a $25 million grant to support the Bay Street Innovation Corridor and Urban Core Riverfront Revitalization projects in Jacksonville. Secretary Chao was joined by Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04), Congressman Al Lawson (FL-05), Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin Thibault, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, and Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) CEO Nathaniel Ford.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao Announces a Proposed $184 Million Grant for Congestion Relief in Atlanta

ATLANTA – U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Secretary Elaine L. Chao joined Congressman Rob Woodall, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), and other state and local officials today to announce a proposed $184,124,447 Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant to build additional, dedicated express lanes on State Route (SR) 400, a major commuter route for Atlanta residents.

“The new express lanes on SR 400 will enhance safety and decrease congestion and travel times for everyone,” said Secretary Chao.
