Maria Lefevre - Executive Director, Office of the Under Secretary

"Maria Lefevre picture"Maria Lefevre has served as the Executive Director for the Office of the Under Secretary of Transportation for policy since 2013, directly supporting the Under Secretary, all non-career and career executives along with their staff in the offices of Transportation Policy (OST-P), Aviation and International Affairs (OST-X), Office of Research and Technology (OST-R) and the Build America Bureau (OST-Z). Maria provides leadership and direction for all offices while implementing policy initiatives and strategic direction. Ms. Lefevre is responsible for establishing, evaluating and executing the financial responsibilities of the Office of the Under Secretary’s budget totaling nearly $750M in operations, over $2.4B in Grant awards, loans totaling about $41 billion and allocations of nearly $14.5 billion in PABs authority.  As Executive Director, Ms. Lefevre supports over 1,500 staff and contractors which includes two fees for service organizations. 

The Office of the Under Secretary is a complex organization comprised of multiple offices and programs with a broad range of functions and missions, including domestic and international transportation policy development and implementation, economic and legislative analysis, regulatory oversight, public engagement, innovative finance and grant programs.

Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Ms. Lefevre was Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration at DOT providing leadership to DOT's Administration function, providing supervision and management.   Ms. Lefevre has also served as the Associate Administrator for Administration for the Research Innovative Technology Administration within DOT.  Prior to joining DOT, Ms. Lefevre served as the Chief of Staff for the Government Printing Office.  In 2008, she was awarded the Stevie Award for Women in Business for best executive in public and private sector organizations.
