USDOT Statement on the Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

Friday, August 12, 2022

With today’s vote in the House, following Sunday’s vote in the Senate, the U.S. Congress has passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The U.S. Department of Transportation, which has an important role in advancing the IRA’s goals, is working to help ensure that electric vehicle charging is accessible to Americans and their communities and is grateful that the legislation provides additional resources to help reconnect communities, advance sustainable aviation fuels, and further reduce emissions by supporting cleaner transportation options.

Secretary Pete Buttigieg said, “Today’s vote will result in a big victory for the American people—lower prescription drug costs, less tax evasion by the wealthy, cleaner air, a better climate, and a lower deficit. Thanks to the leadership of President Biden and the Members of Congress who listened to the American people and voted to get this done, Americans will now spend less on energy bills, health care, and new or used electric vehicles.”
