U.S. Department of Transportation Continues to Actively Engage with Air Canada on the Issue of Ticket Refunds

Friday, April 16, 2021

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation has made clear to Air Canada its position that a refusal to refund passengers when the carrier cancels or significantly changes a flight would be an unfair business practice in violation of U.S. law. Air Canada has informed the Department that it will provide the requested refunds for flights to or from the United States that Air Canada canceled or significantly changed. The Department is also aware that the Canadian government has entered into an agreement with Air Canada for financial support. DOT is continuing to engage with Air Canada on the issue of ticket refunds. Further information will be forthcoming. For more information on passengers’ rights with respect to refunds, see https://www.transportation.gov/individuals/aviation-consumer-protection/refunds.
