Statement from Secretary Foxx on the Passing of Jackie Berrien
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend, Jacqueline Berrien, former chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Jackie was a dedicated public servant and an effective and principled advocate for civil rights, opportunity and justice. She devoted her career to protecting underrepresented people and communities through her work at the EEOC, NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund and American Civil Liberties Union. Jackie served this country and its people with brilliance, determination and grace.
Our nation has lost a great champion in Jackie and she will be sorely missed. I will miss her strong voice and upbeat personality.
The U.S. Department of Transportation offers condolences to the Berrien family and joins her many friends and colleagues in mourning her passing.
