Statement on NTSB Crude Oil Recommendations

Safety is DOT's top priority, and we agree that a comprehensive, all-of-the-above approach is needed to ensure the safe transport of crude oil. DOT has already begun taking actions on these recommendations and other additional steps, from investigating proper classification through the Bakken Blitz, to gaining commitments from the rail and petroleum industries to take immediate steps to improve the safe transport of crude. These are just the immediate steps. We intend to take additional steps in the coming days and weeks.
