FTA Announces Funding Opportunity for Zero Emission Research Opportunity.  This week, FTA announced a $2.75 million opportunity for nonprofit organizations to apply for funding to facilitate the advancement, production, and deployment of zero-emission public transportation vehicle technology and related infrastructure. FTA’s Zero Emission Research Opportunity supports FTA’s green-technology programs by advancing non-polluting transit vehicles through team-led research and demonstration projects. The program seeks up to three consortia to develop and manage project teams of public transit operators, industry vendors, suppliers and others that will focus on increasing efficiencies and capabilities while lowering costs for transit fleets. Technology areas include battery-electric, hybrid-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, as well as charging and refueling infrastructure. Eligibility for future Zero Emission Research Opportunity funding through 2020 will be limited to the selected nonprofit consortia. Since 2008, the U.S. Department of Transportation has provided more than $150 million in funds to research and deploy zero-emission bus technology. The deadline for applications is February 21, 2017.
