DOT Fines Ticket Agent Fareportal for Providing Erroneous and Misleading Information in Fare Advertisements. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) fined ticket agent Fareportal, Inc., doing business as CheapOair, $185,000 for violating federal law prohibiting unfair and deceptive practices by providing erroneous and misleading information in fare advertisements, and ordered the company to cease and desist from further violations. An investigation by DOT’s Aviation Enforcement Office found that a fare matrix on CheapOair’s website falsely displayed that the same carrier operated both the outbound and return flights, when, in actuality, a different carrier operated one of the legs. The fare matrix also erroneously displayed flights as being nonstop when, in actuality, they had multiple stops. The consent order is available at www.regulations.gov, docket DOT-OST-2015-0002.
