FMCSA Issues Cease and Desist Order Against Double Happyness Bus Company Prohibiting the Illegal Sale of Bus Tickets to Consumers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today issued a cease and desist order against Double Happyness Travel, Inc. of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. after finding that the company was operating and selling tickets in violation of a previous agency order to shutdown. The cease and desist order is effective immediately. On Dec. 23, 2011, FMCSA ordered Double Happyness to immediately cease all intrastate and interstate passenger service, declaring the carrier an “imminent hazard” to public safety. The imminent hazard order followed an extensive review of the company’s operations, which found multiple hours-of-service, vehicle maintenance, and controlled substance and alcohol testing violations. If Double Happyness continues to operate illegally, the company will face additional enforcement action.

BTS Releases The Changing Tide of U.S.-International Container Trade: Differences among the U.S. Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific Coasts.

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released a Special Report, The Changing Tide of U.S.-International Container Trade, examining historical U.S. maritime trends, changes in U.S. trading partners, and current U.S. marine trade patterns. The report also compares container vessel calls, container vessel capacity, and the average deadweight tonnage of vessels calling at seaports along the U.S. Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts. In addition, the report highlights the typical container port and terminal construction projects recently completed along the Pacific Coast. BTS Releases Airline Financial Data for 3rd Quarter 2011.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has released airline financial data for the third quarter of 2011. The release was scheduled for Dec. 20 but was delayed because of technical processing issues.  Operating profit/loss and operating revenue can be found on these tables. Fuel cost and consumption numbers are available on these tables. See the BTS financial databases for more detailed data. The data released today is missing reports from two carriers: Continental Airlines and Mesa Airlines.
