Statement on Amtrak Cascades Train 501

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation released the following statement regarding the derailment of Amtrak Cascades Train 501 in the state of Washington.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this tragic event. We want to commend the first responders and all who assisted.  The Department dispatched an experienced team of 15 experts from the Federal Rail Administration. We are monitoring closely the situation, coordinating with the State of Washington and supporting the NTSB in its investigation.  In addition, today, the Secretary has asked Senior Advisor Jim Ray to travel to the site.  It is important to understand the factors that contributed to this tragic accident and how all stakeholders can ensure a safe and reliable rail system going forward.”
