U.S. Department of Transportation Statement on House FAA Reauthorization Bill

Thursday, June 22, 2017

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation released the following statement on legislation reauthorizing the FAA and reforming Air Traffic Control introduced in the House of Representatives:

“We commend Chairman Shuster's leadership and we look forward to working with all House Members on the bill’s swift passage. This bipartisan bill aligns well with the Administration's principles to provide air traffic control services with reliable, stable funding and the agility to modernize our nation's airspace faster and more cost effectively.

The traveling public deserves the best air traffic control system in the world and our airports and controllers need the support and predictable funding to make America the world leader in aviation. From small communities that rely on general aviation to our largest hubs, Chairman Shuster’s proposed air traffic control reforms will cut costs, keep fees within the system, enhance safety and leverage private capital to continuously improve our system – all benefits we cannot realize under the status quo.

Also, certification reforms in the bill remove unnecessary bureaucracy, which will reduce the time and cost required to bring new aircraft products to market and help our aerospace industry remain second to none.  Together with air traffic control reform, these provisions will help American aviation support a thriving economy and new jobs.”
