CARES Act Air Service Exemption Sun Country Airlines Renewal
Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation is acting on a request from Sun Country for an exemption from the CARES Act airline service obligations announced in Order 2020-4-2. Sun Country is requesting that the Department grant it an extension from June 22 through September 30, 2020, from its service obligation to ten covered points, of which eight are large hubs, and to allow the carrier to suspend service at two other covered points to align with their regularly-scheduled service end dates. The Department finds that a limited grant is warranted. Sun Country will not be obligated to provide service to the eight large hubs identified in its exemption and will be able to suspend service to Anchorage, Alaska beginning September 8, 2020. The request and the Notice of Action Taken can be found on www.regulations.gov by searching “Docket-DOT-OST-2020-0037.” The Department continues to review additional requests for exemption as well as the comments being submitted in the docket.
