    • Walkability/ Bikability checklists
    • Bike safety training stations
    • Bike helmet fittings and equipment demonstrations
    • Communication, safety campaigns

9:30 – 10:00        Bike Safety Tour through Tampa

  1. Location: Along the Tampa Riverwalk and ending at the Convention Center
  2. Purpose: Tour the Tampa Riverwalk and downtown bicycle facilities with local officials

10:00 – 10:30      National Bike Safety Rally

  1. Location: Convention Center Ballroom B
  2. Attendees:  General Public, Press
  3. Speakers: Secretary LaHood, Mayor Buckhorn
  4. Purpose: National call to action to improve bike safety in all communities
    1. Why bike safety is important
    2. Why we are doing this summit

10:30 – 11:30      Interactive Panel Discussion

  1. Location: Convention Center Ballroom B
  2. Attendees: General Public, Press
  3. Purpose:  Frame the issues/provide key messages
  4. Speakers:  Interactive Panel Discussion with:
    1. NHTSA Administrator David Strickland will moderate
    2. Bob Buckhorn, Tampa Mayor
    3. Billy Hattaway, Florida District 1 Transportation Secretary
    4. Karen Kress, Tampa BayCycle
    5. Capt Ruben Delgado, Tampa Police Department

11:30 – 12:30      Lunch on your own

  1. Location: Convention Center restaurants or participants can go to downtown shops and restaurants

Afternoon

12:30 – 4:00        Afternoon Discussion Sessions

  1. Location: Convention Center Room 22-23 set up in roundtables
  2. Attendees: Regional planners, engineers, designers, law enforcement, safety specialists, bike coordinators, and advocates.
  3. Handout:  List of available tools/resources to support your efforts
  4. Purpose:  Participants will learn about best practices to improve bike safety and come away with 3-5 actions to implement in their community. Each panel will feature 2-3 speakers to provide examples/ideas, followed by self-guided discussions at tables, and report out to the group.
