Steve Sill is a Senior Scientist at the USDOT Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence (HASS COE) leading system architectures and standardization activities. Previously, at the USDOT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office, he was responsible for the U.S. National ITS reference architecture with companion toolsets, ITS standards development, and cybersecurity research programs. Prior experience includes advanced vehicle safety and automation, high-speed passenger rail, alternative vehicle fuels and hybrid-electric propulsion technology development, along with Logistics Engineering for the U.S. Navy and work as a flight instructor. Steve received an MBA from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer, is a certified Project Management Professional, and holds U.S. commercial pilot (airplane) and flight instructor certificates.
