Carpool is a group of two or more employees who routinely share a motor vehicle for transportation to and from work. Carpools are not eligible for the federal transit benefit; however, carpools consisting of the highest number of federal staff are often given first priority parking at Federal Facilities. Find more information on ridesharing through your agency or on these and similar sites. State sites may refer to mass transportation but not include carpool specific information on their transit like pages:

Vanpools are eligible for the federal transit benefit. You can join an existing vanpool or get a group of 5-6 co-workers who live nearby and work similar schedules. Contact a vanpool service to start a new vanpool. Check www.transportation.gov/transerve or visit us at transerve@dot.gov

Ride your bike to work or use Capital Bikeshare. Capital Bikeshare is the regional bikesharing system in the Washington, DC area. You can join for a year, a month, three days or 24 hours. Bicycles can be checked out at one docking station and dropped off at any other docking station in the system with the first half-hour free. Click here to visit Capital Bikeshare.
