DOT Report to Congress: Decarbonizing U.S. Transportation
DOT Report to Congress: Decarbonizing U.S. Transportation (July 2024)
This report responds to congressional direction to outline DOT strategy and actions for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with our international commitments.
In recent years Congress has provided unprecedented funding and incentives to support GHG reductions across the economy, including the transportation sector. With this funding, DOT has taken significant, wide-ranging action to reduce emissions, from supporting transit-oriented development to investing in highly efficient modes such as public transit, rail, freight vehicle efficiencies, and marine transportation to deploying electric vehicle chargers and alternative fuel infrastructure.
The DOT actions described in this report play a critical role in reducing U.S. transportation GHG emissions. However, more is needed for us to meet our emissions reduction goals. This report concludes by identifying opportunities for driving further reductions in U.S. transportation GHG emissions.
