The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT), Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) is pleased to highlight its very own Michelle Harris for participating in the USDOT Lessons in Leadership women’s event.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, the USDOT hosted a program celebrating women in transportation. Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, delivered the keynote address on important lessons in leadership. The program also featured remarks from Blair Anderson, USDOT Under Secretary for Policy, Paul “Chip” Jaenichen, USDOT Maritime Administrator, and Michelle Harris, USDOT OSDBU Regional Assistance Manager and member of USDOT’s Work Group for the White House Council on Women and Girls.
OSDBU’s Michelle Harris delivered a powerful address to the attendees of the USDOT’s Lessons In Leadership event. During her address, Michelle spoke on the various resources and efforts in place to encourage women and girls to pursue careers in transportation, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). One specific program Michelle mentioned was the USDOT Women In Transportation Initiative (WITI) program. In addition, the WITI program has provided internships to over 300 young women and since 2014, 15 of the participants have gone into transportation or STEM careers.
