2024 SS4A Awards: Implementation Grants

During the fiscal year 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding round, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced 70 Implementation Grant awards totaling $806,600,340.

These awarded projects are summarized in 1-page project descriptions.

Implementation Grants provide funding for communities to implement strategies and projects that will significantly reduce or eliminate transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries.

Key facts about the FY24 SS4A Implementation Grant award recipients:

• 70 Implementation Grant applicants received awards totaling $806,600,340, of which $30,197,300 is for planning and demonstration activities. 
• Approximately 1/3 of Implementation Grant applicants received funding to implement projects and strategies. Another 13 percent received partial awards for planning and demonstration activities included in their application. 
• Awarded projects provide significant safety benefits to all people who use our roadways:
  • The roadways and areas that received funding to implement projects had 612 lives lost and 14,004 injuries over the past 5 years. 
  • 95 percent of awards are going to provide significant safety benefits to pedestrians.
  • 94 percent of awards are going to provide significant safety benefits to bicyclists.
  • Over half are going to provide significant safety benefits to people taking transit.  
  • Over $200 million in funding benefits communities in rural and Tribal areas.
