DOT Approves Antitrust Immunity for U.S.-Japan Aviation Alliances.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has granted antitrust immunity to two air carrier alliances for services between the United States and Japan, making final its proposed decision of Oct. 6. The Department’s decision grants immunity to “oneworld” alliance members American Airlines and Japan Airlines, and separately to “Star Alliance” members United Airlines, Continental Airlines and All Nippon Airways, allowing the members of each alliance to more closely coordinate international operations in transpacific markets. BTS Releases Fact Sheet on Atlantic Coast U.S. Seaports.
The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released a fact sheet, Atlantic Coast U.S. Seaports, highlighting the major Atlantic container ports of New York/New Jersey, Virginia, Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. These ports are the largest of the Atlantic Coast seaports from Eastport, Maine, through Key West, Fla., that are preparing for an expected increase in cargo generated by an expansion of the Panama Canal scheduled for completion in 2014. New Banks Join DOT Short Term Lending Program.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization announced the addition of three new participating lenders in the Short Term Lending Program. Under the program, the Department guarantees up to $750,000 in loans for eligible small and disadvantaged businesses. The loan guarantee provides a revolving line of credit for work on transportation related contracts. Funds are used to meet the short term costs of performing the contract being financed. The banks are: Community Bank & Trust (CB&T) located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Zions Bank located in Salt Lake City, Utah; and Virginia Commerce Bank located in Chantilly, Virginia.
